When I first got into SAP BI a few years ago I followed this course on SAP BW 3.5 which took like 10 days or maybe even more. I do remember the first time I saw and used BEx Analyzer, the MS Excel plugin to view and analyze data from SAP BW. I was just shocked to see such a terrible user interface design and a tool that was not intuitive to use at all! And people were supposed to use this app for their daily work? OMG.
SAP now released a video that basically says that BEx Analyzer sucks. Too complex, too much end-user training needed, to much complaints, too expensive and so on. The solution? SAP BusinessObjects Analysis edition for Microsoft Office.
Have fun watching it.
That’s just because you don’t know how to use the BEx Analyzer…
You might also say that Excel Pivot Tables sucks, simply because you don’t know how to use it…
SAP BEx Analyzer is a tool, and as any other tool, is a good idea to learn how to use it…
Yup that is exactly the problem. People have to learn how to use the tool. That’s not what we want anymore.
Look at the iPod/iPad/iPhone: No 100+ page user guide needed anymore and that is how it should be!
You are correct .
This is a primitive excel plug-in.
They Killed several feature of Excel also.
But this will work if you can condition the users that BI is complex.!
All of a sudden, the crippling of some of the stuff you could do with 3.5 to 7.x makes sense.
“No, no, you don’t want to pass variables via VBA, you want to buy Analytics.”
