A huge update in SAP Analytics Cloud wave 2018.17 for platform administrators! It is now finally possible to get more insights in the actual usage of your SAP Analytics Cloud environment. Who is using which story at what time. Furthermore, we can now easily see relations between SAC objects. For example, what roles and teams are assigned to a certain user.
This data is made available via a couple of built-in models and you can create your own stories for reporting on it. This is a huge step forward, as before we had to make manual exports of the Activity data into CSV files, clean the data and use MS Excel (or import the data again into SAP Analytics Cloud) to do an analysis. Also we could use the SAC API to get information about objects. Anyway, it was not very convenient to do this on a daily base.
In the video I show you how to activate this functionality and how to use it to create your own monitoring story.Posted in: SAP Analytics Cloud, Video
Just weeks after the introduction of the long-awaited bookmarks in SAP Analytics Cloud, the first improvement/extension of this features is already introduced: Bookmarks for Explorer views. In this video I take a look at how this works in SAP Analytics Cloud stories (available from wave 2018.18).Posted in: SAP Analytics Cloud, Video
SAP Analytics Cloud wave 2018.16 finally introduces story bookmarks! We already knew the bookmarking concept from other SAP BI tools like SAP Lumira Designer and Discovery, and even the good old BEx Web Analyzer had the option to store the navigation state of a report. So it’s good to see this now in SAP Analytics Cloud as well.
For those who are not familiar with bookmarks: it basically allows you to store filters settings on a story, without having to create numerous (personal) copies of a story. In the video I take a look at how this now works in SAP Analytics Cloud.Posted in: SAP Analytics Cloud, Video
This week we officially presented the first copy of SAP Lumira, Discovery edition – The Comprehensive Guide by SAP Press to Merlin Knott (SAP VP of Sales for Analytics North Europe) at the SAP Hybrid Analytics knowledge event organized by SAP Netherlands and Interdobs.
SAP Lumira, Discovery edition – The Comprehensive Guide is now available for purchase via SAP-Press.com and and can be ordered as hardcopy, DRM-free ebook or bundled editions. Personally I see the bundled edition at SAP Press as the best deal, as it gives you the hardcopy to read, and the PDF ebook as a reference for when you are on the road or when you want to check out the full color screenshots.
The book covers all the new features from the very recent 2.1 release of SAP Lumira, Discovery edition. It offers a lot of value for those who are new to the tool, as well as for those who have used SAP Lumira 1.x in the past.
We make sure that beginners are brought up to speed in a very fast way, by offering easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to create a “story” and perform tasks in the tool. The datasets that are used in the chapters can be downloaded from the SAP Press book page, so the reader can follow along with the examples throughout the book. We use hundreds of detailed screenshots to further explain the Lumira Discovery concepts and features.
For readers with experience in SAP Lumira 1.x we make sure that the transition to 2.1 is as smooth as can be. The book describes the completely new Lumira Discovery 2.x user interface and its new way of working. We extensively discuss the different offline and live data scenarios and give a complete overview of all the data analysis, data manipulation and visualization options the tool has to offer. In addition, the installation and setup of both the client tool and BI Platform server add-on are described in detail. At the end of the book we discuss several interoperability scenarios to extend Lumira Discovery stories in SAP Lumira, Designer edition.
A reading sample, the full table of contents and the index can be found here. In the below video, co-author Martijn van Foeken and I further discuss the book:

It has been a while, but we finally recorded a new episode of the Dutch BI Podcast. This time, we talk about the recent strategy change that SAP made regarding its BI portfolio and what this means for SAP Lumira, Discovery edition and SAP Analytics Cloud.
I uploaded the podcast to YouTube as well, so with a bit of luck the speech-to-text functionality does its work and you can read the transcript in English or any other language of your choosing.Posted in: De Nederlandse BI Podcast, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Lumira, Video
