Seemingly out of nowhere a list of new names were presented last week at the <a href=\"http:\/\/events.sap.com\/sapandasug\/en\/home.html?bc=1\">SAPPHIRENOW<\/a> event\u00a0in Orlando FL. Even after all the name changes we had in the past 10 years (&#8216;member Xcelsius?), this still came a bit as a surprise for me.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SAP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SAP<\/a> acknowledged name-changes across <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/businessintelligence?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#businessintelligence<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/analytics?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#analytics<\/a>, I didn&#39;t realize it was quite this extensive! @SAPPHIRENOW <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Fa5W5fjdGh\">pic.twitter.com\/Fa5W5fjdGh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Doug Henschen (@DHenschen) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DHenschen\/status\/865250946246483968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 18, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>So let&#8217;s have a look at what happened here. First it seems like the whole BI portfolio is now recognized as\u00a0<strong>SAP Analytics<\/strong>. Apparently it was named <strong>SAP BusinessObjects Analytics\u00a0<\/strong>before (I always thought it was &#8216;SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence&#8217;, but that could be because I&#8217;m mostly focussing on the BI part of the tools), but this makes sense. The old <strong>BI<\/strong> terminology is probably seen as too limited, as the current and future analytics will go way beyond only\u00a0internal\u00a0data and usage scenarios. Of course the bigger\u00a0change is that\u00a0SAP continues to ditch\u00a0the BusinessObjects brand:\u00a0SAP BusinessObjects Cloud becomes <strong>SAP Analytics Cloud<\/strong>,\u00a0SAP BusinessObjects Lumira will be <strong>SAP Lumira<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0SAP BusinessObjects Roambi just <strong>SAP Roambi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, some of the more classic BusinessObjects tools keep their BusinessObjects brand:\u00a0<strong>SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise<\/strong>. Analysis for Office loses the &#8216;for Office&#8217; specification: <strong>SAP BusinessObjects Analysis<\/strong>. Following the conversion strategy this makes sense, as Analysis OLAP hasn&#8217;t been improved for a while and should be replaced by the Design Studio generic analysis template. Talking about\u00a0Design Studio, which is not in the above photo, it is now labeled as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sap.com\/products\/dashboard-design-studio.html\"><strong>SAP\u00a0Analytics\u00a0Design Studio<\/strong><\/a> (!!!) on SAP.com. Which, is a pretty insane name change at this point in time as the upcoming edition of the tool (only weeks away) will merge into Lumira 2.0 anyway. Talking about insane\u00a0stuff, when I was browsing SAP.com I also saw that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sap.com\/products\/dashboards.html\">SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards (Xcelsius)<\/a>\u00a0is still actively\u00a0advertised. Madness.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, what I don&#8217;t understand is why SAP is keeping this BusinessObjects brand alive at all. Does it still have a value if all your major (new) tools are not using it? Maybe it&#8217;s for the non-SAPBW\/HANA legacy customer base? But come on, it has been 10 years now since the acquisition and this is again (or still) a mess. Some tools have SAP Analytics in the name, some SAP BusinessObjects and some only SAP.\u00a0I can&#8217;t wait for next year&#8217;s edition!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another year, another set of product names for our beloved SAP BI tools.
