Coming soon: SAP Lumira, Discovery Edition – The Comprehensive Guide

Posted by on Jan 5, 2018

Big news, as I am very happy to announce our newest SAP Press book: SAP Lumira, Discovery Edition – The Comprehensive Guide. For this book I teamed up with my Interdobs colleague Martijn van Foeken (@mfoeken), who is a seasoned SAP BusinessObjects specialist with over 10 years of hands-on experience.

The major SAP Lumira 2 release of last summer brought so many changes and that much new stuff to the toolset, that we decided to not just update the existing “Getting Started with SAP Lumira” book from 2015 (based on SAP Lumira 1.18, ‘member?), but to start all over again. Our book will cover the recent SAP Lumira 2.1 update as well. In the weeks towards the release date, I’ll share some more details on the exact content and what you can expect to learn from this book.

The book will be available at SAPPress.com and Amazon, probably by the end of this quarter, in ebook, print and bundled editions.

SAP Lumira, Discovery Edition – The Comprehensive Guide
475 pages, 2018
E-book formats: EPUB, MOBI, PDF, online

SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio – The Comprehensive Guide NOW AVAILABLE!!

Posted by on Feb 25, 2016

dsboek3d-150x150Today is a glorious day, as SAP Press released our new book: SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio – The Comprehensive Guide!! I can’t believe this is already the fourth book with my name on it…

Together with my Interdobs colleagues Jeroen van der A and Dwain Chang we created the book over the past 11 months. Pfew.

So when we started this project in April 2015, Design Studio was only on version 1.4! You can imagine the amount of changes this tool has had over the past years. And not only looking at pure tool features, also the number of organizations that are actually using Design Studio!

Design Studio is more and more moving from a pure dashboarding solution to a broad purpose tool to create BI apps that not only visualize data, but also support ad-hoc data analysis and even data input features.

It was clear that our 2013 book  Getting Started with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio needed a big update, as it included only the features up until Design Studio version 1.1. The new edition is updated for Design Studio 1.6 and with a whopping 750 pages almost doubled in size!

The book is divided in five parts:

  1. Getting Started, introduces Design Studio and compares it to the other SAP BI front end tools. Design Studio use cases are discussed and the installation procedures are walked through step-by-step .
  2. The Basics, goes through every detail of the Design Studio client tool and its components, and shows you how to develop an application.
  3. Advanced Concepts, describes how to add interactivity to apps, set up planning, format and enhance applications and finishes with a set of guidelines and best practices for data visualization and dashboard development.
  4. Software Development Kit, dives into the world of creating custom components.
  5. Examples, provides a set of step-by-step examples of Design Studio applications.

At the book page on SAP Press you can check a sample chapter and the full index. The book is available in a hardcover printed edition and an eBook version.

Posted by on Dec 29, 2015

design_studio_boek2_2SAP Design Studio has changed and improved a lot over the past three years; arriving at version 1.6 last month. It was clear that our 2013 book Getting Started with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio needed a big update, as it included only the features up until Design Studio version 1.1.

So the wait is almost over and in early 2016 the fully updated and extended version of the book will be available under the name SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio: The Comprehensive Guide (2nd edition). Make sure you create some room in your bookcase because with about 750 pages this book has gotten really fat. For this project I teamed up with my Interdobs colleagues and Design Studio specialists Jeroen van der A and Dwain Chang.

I will post some more info on the book as we approach the release date. Below is already the outline from the SAP Press and Amazon page.

Ordering Getting Started with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio book in Europe

Posted by on Jan 13, 2014

3307-bobj-design-studio-lg__13516_stdI got some questions about ordering the Getting Started with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio book. The website I normally refer to – SAP-Press.com – ships the book globally, but if you are not in the U.S. or Canada the shipping costs are pretty high. I you order a single book they may be as high as the price of the book itself!

SAP Press even acknowledges this in its FAQ:

For most international shipments, customers can optimize the shipping cost per book by ordering more than one book at a time. We recommend that you test different quantities in your shopping cart in order to determine the most cost effective way to proceed, or consult with one of our customer service specialists.

Mmkay… Luckily the are also some cheaper options to get the book in Europe:
